Team Leader Collections

Job Description 

As Team Leader Collections, you will be responsible for managing the staff within the Collections team. This team consists of several sub-teams, each with specific focus areas, including e-journal licenses, books and e-books, physical collection management, and Special Collections. Together with your team, you ensure the acquisition, management, accessibility, and further development of both physical and digital collections. Your role is crucial in fostering collaboration within the team as well as cross-departmentally within the University Library. 

 

This position operates in a dynamic environment influenced by developments such as digitization, process optimization, and the provision of information for data-driven decision-making. You will support your team in responding to these changes and collaborate on optimizing collection development, management, and related processes across departments. Together, we are working towards a future-proof library that continues to meet the evolving needs of students, researchers, and other users. 

 

As Team Leader Collections, you will work closely with the manager of the Department Library Locations & Services and the process coordinator scientific information to translate the strategic departmental plan into concrete team plans for team Collections, as well as contribute to the strategic collection plan for the University Library. 

 

The tasks include:   

  • Leading a team of professionals within the Collections team and supporting their growth and development together with the department manager. 
  • Translating strategic goals into concrete plans for your team, allowing room for autonomy and initiative. 
  • Coordinating and encouraging collaboration between the sub-teams while supporting process optimization, digitization, and automation. 
  • Maintaining national contacts and participating in relevant meetings and projects related to content and metadata management, such as the UKB Content and Metadata Management (UKB CMB), and/or supporting team members in their participation. 
  • Contributing to various projects, such as digitization initiatives and preservation policies of collections. 
  • Encouraging the use of management information within your team and leveraging data to enhance processes. 
  • Playing a key role in change management within the department and fostering a thematic and cross-team approach.

 

Requirements 

To further strengthen and develop the Collections team, we are looking for a connecting and inspiring team leader. You are able to motivate and guide the team while encouraging collaboration within and beyond your team. With your organizational awareness and analytical skills, you effectively respond to change and take processes to the next level. You use relevant data and system information to make informed decisions while keeping an eye on the bigger picture. 

 

You have a strong leadership profile and know how to stimulate employees to work independently while providing clear direction and frameworks. You are familiar with digitization and process optimization and can translate content-related questions into practical solutions. 

 

Additionally, you bring

  • A minimum higher professional education (HBO) level of working and thinking. 
  • Proven affinity with collection development, digitization, and process optimization. Knowledge of library processes and/or metadata management is an advantage. 
  • Demonstrable leadership qualities and experience in inspiring and connecting teams. 
  • Excellent communication skills, both spoken and written, in Dutch and English (C1 level), with the ability to effectively represent internal and external interests. 
  • Experience in facilitating autonomy and creating a collaborative and positive work environment.

 

What we offer
As Team Leader Collections at the University Library, you will be employed by the most international university in the Netherlands, located in the beautiful city of Maastricht. In addition, we offer you:

  • Good employment conditions. The position is graded in scale 9 according to UFO profile Team leader, job level 1with corresponding salary based on experience ranging from €3537,00 and €4860,00 gross per month (based on a full-time employment of 38 hours per week). In addition to the monthly salary, an 8.0% holiday allowance and an 8.3% year-end bonus apply.
  • An employment contract for a period of 12 months with a scope of 0,8 - 1,0 FTE. Upon proven suitability, the employment contract will be converted to an indefinite contract. 
  • At Maastricht University, the well-being of our employees is of utmost importance, we offer flexible working hours and the possibility to work partly from home if the nature of your position allows it. You will receive a monthly commuting and internet allowance for this. If you work full-time, you will be entitled to 29 vacation days and 4 additional public holidays per year, namely carnival Monday, carnival Tuesday, Good Friday, and Liberation Day. If you choose to accumulate compensation hours, an additional 12 days will be added. Furthermore, you can personalize your employment conditions through a collective labor agreement (CAO) choice model.
