Social Media Manager
Welcome to Maastricht University!
Maastricht University’s Faculty of Science and Engineering seeks a Social Media Manager who is excited to connect to our prospective students, for the duration of 6 months.
Social Media Manager
- Our goal: Strengthen the visibility of the Faculty of Science and Engineering (FSE) among our key audiences – especially prospective students.
- Your colleagues: A diverse team of 10 marketing and communication professionals, working closely with student ambassadors and partners across the faculty to raise visibility and foster engagement.
We are looking for a social media manager who takes up the challenge of managing our social media landscape. As social media manager, you build upon our existing social media strategy, you create engaging content and manage our online presence across various platforms. You are both analytical and hands-on: you evaluate our social media performance, identify trends and optimize our campaigns, while also creating messages in a (visually) attractive way.
Your responsibilities
The scope of your responsibilities reflects our faculty’s research and education profile. Your most important target audiences are prospective and current bachelor’s and master’s students.
Your tasks vary on a day-to-day basis, and take place in these domains:
- Strategy: shaping our faculty’s social media plan, advising on marketing projects and campaigns, offering expertise on effective communication strategies and audience engagement, ensuring alignment with the faculty’s goals and target audience needs
- Managing: you will be supervising our student ambassadors for social media, guiding them in creating content, engaging with prospective students, responding to comments and messages and fostering a community
- Execution: creating content, including text, images and videos, across various platforms, in a tone of voice that is aligned with our faculty’s brand
- Analysis: analysing our social media performance and ensure web care, track and report engagement metrics
As social media manager, you join 10 other professionals in the Marketing and Communications team of the faculty. You work closely with the Faculty Board and members of the various departments withing the faculty, as well as with a team of dedicated student assistants. Within the university, you take part in the UM social media team, where you meet your peers from other faculties and the central marketing and communications team.
Are you a content creator at heart? Do your colleagues or your followers consider you a skilled and versatile communicator? And does your brain kick into gear at the thought of managing our social media channels, at one of the most dynamic places in Limburg?
Wonderful – then we would love to welcome you in our team!
What you bring
We are not looking for a checklist, but for who you are and what you can contribute. Do you recognize yourself in this?
- Strategic and hands-on. You think in plans, but you are just as comfortable putting them into practice – from strategy to posts.
- Organisationally sensitive. You navigate easily within an academic environment and know how to involve stakeholders.
- A strong communicator. You write and speak English fluently (native or near-native level), with excellent writing skills and a feel for tone of voice.
- Visually creative. You have experience with video production and digital editing tools (Photoshop, InDesign, etc.).
- A team player. You enjoy working together, guiding student ambassadors, and contributing with enthusiasm and energy.
In addition, you have at least a bachelor’s degree (or equivalent experience) in Social Media Management, Marketing, Communications, or a related field.
