Post-Doctoral Researcher Technology-Enhanced Personalized Learning and Instruction

Job Description
We are looking for a motivated post-doctoral researcher to combine research and educational development activities. On the research side, you will assist with a project on the development of personal learning environments (PLE) for students as well as for teaching faculty. In terms of educational development, you will work on a variety of activities including course and curriculum design, teaching delivery, assessment, and technology-enhanced learning. This unique combination allows you to work with an established and experienced team of educational researchers and educational developers allowing you not only to write up and share research findings with academic and practitioner audiences through (top-tier) academic publications, seminars, conferences, and/or workshops, but also to develop education and staff development activities based on your findings. There is a choice between possible different studies and development activities, based on your profile, interests, and professional development objectives for this position.

 

The position is located within Maastricht University’s School of Business and Economics,and specifically within the Department of Educational Research and Development. The project is set-up by an experienced team of educational researchers and educational developers including Prof. dr. Wim Gijselaers, Dr. Alexandra Mihai, and Dr. Bas Giesbers. You will also be contributing to the educational development activities organised by the SBE Learning Academy. 

 

To summarise, your tasks in this role include: 

  • Conducting a literature study on personal learning environments both for students and for teaching faculty.
  • Assisting in the analysis and development of one or more competency frameworks for business education and teacher professionalisation in business education.
  • Assisting in the design and execution of case studies and/or pilot studies to validate the developed competency framework(s) and the use of educational technology in a PLE setting.   
  • Writing up research papers for publication in (top-tier) academic journals. 
  • Presenting findings at seminars and conferences.
  • Assist in initiatives by the Learning Academy, e.g., teacher professionalization or educational design.  
  • Managing several concurrent research and development project timelines and ensuring timely completion.

 

Requirements
You will have completed a PhD in education, educational psychology, work and organisational psychology, or a related field. You have an interest in combining educational research with educational development. Ideally, you have experience with educational development, qualitative and quantitative research methods in education, the academic publishing process in relevant field(s), along with well-developed conceptual reasoning, statistical analysis, presentation, and academic writing skills. You are expected to have an excellent command of English, mastery of (spoken) Dutch is encouraged.

 What we offer
As a Postdoc Technology-Enhanced Personalized Learning and Instruction at the School of Business and Economics, you will be employed by the most international university in the Netherlands, located in the beautiful city of Maastricht. In addition, we offer you:

  • Good employment conditions. The position is graded in scale 11 according to UFO profile Researcher, with corresponding salary based on experience ranging from €4492,00 and €6148,00 gross per month (based on a full-time employment of 38 hours per week). In addition to the monthly salary, an 8.0% holiday allowance and an 8.3% year-end bonus apply.
  • An employment contract for a period of 24 months with a scope of 1.0 FTE.
  • At Maastricht University, the well-being of our employees is of utmost importance, we offer flexible working hours and the possibility to work partly from home if the nature of your position allows it. You will receive a monthly commuting and internet allowance for this. If you work full-time, you will be entitled to 29 vacation days and 4 additional public holidays per year, namely carnival Monday, carnival Tuesday, Good Friday, and Liberation Day. If you choose to accumulate compensation hours, an additional 12 days will be added. Furthermore, you can personalize your employment conditions through a collective labor agreement (CAO) choice model.
