Metadata Specialist
Our goal: Ensuring that students, lecturers and researchers have access to relevant and well-managed information resources by applying metadata to purchased print and e-versions of books as well as new materials such as apps and educational media.
Your colleagues: You will work closely with colleagues within and outside the Collections team and actively contribute to strengthening the information services of the UM Library.
What you do
You closely follow developments in scholarly information services and translate them into proposals for improvements in collection policy and the sustainable accessibility of digital information.
- Receiving and cataloguing purchased materials so they are visible and findable for researchers and students.
- You manage the shared team mailbox.
- You are the Key User Record Manager, keeping track of developments in the WMS library system and communicating these with the team.
- De-collectioning of collections will play an important role in the coming years; you will have a coordinating role, assisting with the UKB-check and the actual removal of materials.
- Applying metadata to digitised heritage collections, old collections and travel books, and making OmekaS titles available in the Collection Manager so they are included in LibSearch.

Curiosity: Affinity with academic education and research, and a desire to understand what happens behind the scenes of our University Library.
Experience and education: A completed bachelor’s degree and relevant work experience.
Bilingual: Excellent command of Dutch and English (minimum C1).
Data and system minded: Interest in systems such as WorldShare or OmekaS; knowledge and experience with metadata standards and classifications. You are proficient in using Discovery and Collection Manager.
A forward-looking and proactive attitude: You work accurately, analytically, and contribute input for implementing improvements, using tools developed to make processes more efficient.
What we offer
At Maastricht University, you’ll work in an international, open, and engaged environment. We offer:
- A 12-month contract (0,8 - 1,0 fte) with the prospect of a permanent contract based on mutual satisfaction. OR A 12-month contract (0,8 - 1,0 fte) with the prospect of a XX year extension.
- A gross monthly salary between €3382,00 and €4484,00 (based on full-time employment of 38 hours per week). 8% holiday allowance and an 8.3% year-end bonus.
- 29 vacation days (based on full-time), four additional days off (Carnival Monday and Tuesday, Good Friday, and Liberation Day), and the possibility to accrue up to 12 extra days through compensation hours.
