General Description
As a Lecturer in Entrepreneurship, you will join a dynamic and interdisciplinary team at the Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation (CEI). You will hold a hybrid position where you teach and inspire students, coach start-up teams, and support ongoing research initiatives related to innovation and entrepreneurship.
This role is ideal for a practitioner or educator who thrives at the crossroads of education, entrepreneurship, and research, and who finds energy in working closely with students, entrepreneurs, and academic colleagues.
Purpose of the Role
The Lecturer in Entrepreneurship plays a vital role in fostering a culture of entrepreneurship and innovation within the institution. You will deliver engaging educational content on entrepreneurship and business development, coach students and alumni who are launching ventures, and contribute to practice-based research projects aligned with SME innovation and transformation.
You act as a mentor, facilitator, and role model for entrepreneurial students and early-stage entrepreneurs, offering practical insights and constructive guidance. At the same time, you contribute to the CEI’s research programs through your knowledge, experience, and applied mindset.
Core Activities
1. Education and Didactics
- Teach entrepreneurship-related courses on topics such as business modelling, start-up development, and entrepreneurial skills.
- Actively contribute to curriculum development, project-based learning, and blended education initiatives.
- Supervise students during internships, entrepreneurial projects, and graduation tracks.
2. Coaching and Start-up Support
- Mentor and coach student and alumni start-ups within incubator or accelerator programs.
- Advise on business validation, funding, team development, market strategy, and scaling.
- Strengthen ties between the CEI and the regional entrepreneurship ecosystem.
3. Research and Practice-Based Innovation
- Support ongoing research projects with practical expertise and connections to the field.
- Identify relevant questions and opportunities from the entrepreneurial ecosystem that can feed into research.
- Participate in research groups, workshops, events, and contribute to publications where relevant.
Requirements
Education and Experience:
- A completed university degree (master’s), preferably in Business, Entrepreneurship, Innovation, Economics, or a related field.
- Practical experience as an entrepreneur, start-up coach, business developer, or innovation manager.
- Teaching experience (e.g., in higher professional education) is a strong asset.
- Affinity with the SME/start-up environment and a good understanding of entrepreneurial ecosystems.
Skills and Competencies:
- Didactically strong with the ability to engage and inspire students.
- Entrepreneurial, energetic, and collaborative in mindset.
- Skilled coach and mentor with a supportive yet critical eye.
- Strong communicator in both Dutch (minimum B2 level) and English.
- Comfortable operating in a flexible and dynamic environment.
The ideal candidate:
- Combines teaching experience with hands-on entrepreneurial knowledge.
- Feels at home in a role that integrates education, coaching, and research.
- Is driven to create impact—on students, start-ups, and the wider SME sector.
What we offer
As Lecturer in Entrepreneurship at the School of Business and Economics, you will be employed by the most international university in the Netherlands, located in the beautiful city of Maastricht. In addition, we offer you:
- Good employment conditions. The position is graded in scale 10 according to UFO profile Teacher, with corresponding salary based on experience ranging from €3378,00 and €5331,00 gross per month (based on a full-time employment of 38 hours per week). In addition to the monthly salary, an 8.0% holiday allowance and an 8.3% year-end bonus apply.
- An employment contract for a period of 24 months with a scope of 0.8-1.0 FTE.
- At Maastricht University, the well-being of our employees is of utmost importance, we offer flexible working hours and the possibility to work partly from home if the nature of your position allows it. You will receive a monthly commuting and internet allowance for this. If you work full-time, you will be entitled to 29 vacation days and 4 additional public holidays per year, namely carnival Monday, carnival Tuesday, Good Friday, and Liberation Day. If you choose to accumulate compensation hours, an additional 12 days will be added. Furthermore, you can personalize your employment conditions through a collective labor agreement (CAO) choice model.
