Grants Advisor

Are you enthusiastic about supporting cutting-edge research and grant development? The Faculty of Psychology and Neuroscience of Maastricht University is looking for a motivated and proactive Grants Advisor to join our team.

 

As a Grants Advisor, you will play a key role in identifying relevant funding opportunities and supporting researchers throughout the grant application process. You either already have, or are willing to  develop, in-depth knowledge of national and international funding programs and use this to match opportunities with the faculty’s research strengths.


You will provide expert advice on the content and structure of proposals, review applications, inform researchers about upcoming calls and funding conditions, and offer administrative support throughout the proposal development and submission process. You will act as the primary point of contact for researchers, department heads, the faculty board, and the faculty director on all matters related to grants and research funding. The position is embedded in the research cluster of the Faculty Office, where you will work closely with the finance department, the research policy advisor and legal officer. You will also collaborate with other grant advisors and funding professionals across the university.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain a deep knowledge of the national and international funding landscape.
  • Engage with researchers and research groups to understand their research interests and expertise and help identify relevant funding opportunities.
  • Advise and coach researchers and research groups in shaping their research funding strategies
  • Support the preparation of high-quality, well-structured grant proposals.
  • Guide researchers through the administrative aspects of grant applications and submission processes.
  • Organize workshops and peer feedback sessions focused on specific funding programmes and topics.
  • Contribute to activities for the Central Research Office, such as representing the university in national meetings and co-organizing information sessions.

 

Your Profile

  • A university degree, with a background in psychology, neuroscience, or a related discipline
  • A PhD and experience in writing, evaluating, or advising on research grants are an asset.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English; fluent in spoken and written Dutch or willing to follow courses to achieve this level.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Analytical mindset and strong attention to detail.
  • A flexible, collaborative, and proactive approach to work.
  • Positive and open communication style, with a service-oriented mindset.

 

What we offer
As Grants Adviseur at Faculty of Psychology and Neuroscience, you will be employed by the most international university in the Netherlands, located in the beautiful city of Maastricht. In addition, we offer you:

  • Good employment conditions. The position is graded in scale 10 - 11 according to UFO profile Advisor, with corresponding salary based on experience ranging from €3378,00 and €6209,00 gross per month (based on a full-time employment of 38 hours per week). In addition to the monthly salary, an 8.0% holiday allowance and an 8.3% year-end bonus apply.
  • An employment contract for a period of 12 months with a scope of 0,8 FTE. Upon proven suitability, the employment contract will be converted to an indefinite contract. 
  • At Maastricht University, the well-being of our employees is of utmost importance, we offer flexible working hours and the possibility to work partly from home if the nature of your position allows it. You will receive a monthly commuting and internet allowance for this. If you work full-time, you will be entitled to 29 vacation days and 4 additional public holidays per year, namely carnival Monday, carnival Tuesday, Good Friday, and Liberation Day. If you choose to accumulate compensation hours, an additional 12 days will be added. Furthermore, you can personalize your employment conditions through a collective labor agreement (CAO) choice model.

The Faculty of Psychology and Neuroscience (FPN) is an international faculty with students and staff from various cultural backgrounds, who are connected by their shared curiosity about human behaviour and our brains.   


This curiosity inspires us to explore the wide field of psychology from different perspectives (such as a biological and cognitive viewpoint). By using small-scale and student-centred methods, such as problem-based learning and project-based learning, we encourage a similar kind of curiosity in our students, as we provide them with the tools to discover the world of the human brain.
