Assistant/Associate Professor in Network Security

We are looking for a colleague to strengthen our research and educational initiatives on Cybersecurity. Within that scope, your focus will be on Network Security: you will bring in, share, and develop valuable expertise. You will be part of the ambitious Cybersecurity team, that operates at Maastricht University in Maastricht and at the Brightlands Smart Services Campus in Heerlen. 

 

Assistant/Associate Professor in Network Security

  • Our goal: To drive innovation in Network Security by building on the department’s broad expertise in AI, data science, computer science, applied mathematics and robotics. 
  • Your colleagues: You will join the Department of Advanced Compiting Sciences (DACS). DACS is an international community of approximately 100 researchers at various stages of their career, embedded in the Faculty of Science and Engineering (FSE). Our department has more than 30 years of experience in research and teaching in the fields of Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Artificial Intelligence, Robotics, Data Science, and Applied Mathematics. 

 

In this role, you will be active in high-impact research (that includes acquiring research funding, publishing, and supervising junior researchers) and high-quality teaching in our educational programs.

 

What you do
As our new colleague, you will collaborate with colleagues from the department, faculty, and university. Our research activities span the entire spectrum from curiosity-driven research to responsible societal applications, often taking on an interdisciplinary character. Cutting-edge contributions to areas such as computer systems, theoretical computer science, cybersecurity, computer vision, artificial intelligence, and FAIR principles are internationally recognized. DACS fosters intensive collaborations as well as a strong synergy between academia and business, and it maintains an industry network with over 80 private collaborators ranging from local SMEs to large multinationals. The department designs and develops data-driven solutions for a wide variety of business applications in sectors including transport and logistics, critical infrastructures, healthcare, and production and manufacturing. In addition to your research, you will contribute to our top-rated education. Our department offers two bachelor programs and two master programs, delivering top-level education in Computer Science, Data Science, and Artificial Intelligence. You will have an important voice in further developing our education programs.

  • A PhD degree in Computer Science or a strongly related field;
  • Experience in mentoring a team of junior researchers;

  • A strong and consistent track record in research and teaching;
  • A proven track record with funding acquisition at national or European level.

 

What we offer
As Assistant/Associate Professor
 at Faculty of Science & Engineering, you will be employed by the most international university in the Netherlands, located in the beautiful city of Maastricht. In addition, we offer you:

  • Good employment conditions. The position is graded in scale 11-14, with corresponding salary based on experience ranging from €4.728 and €8.673 gross per month (based on a full-time employment of 38 hours per week). In addition to the monthly salary, an 8.0% holiday allowance and an 8.3% year-end bonus apply.
  • An employment contract for a period of 18 months with a scope of 1.0 FTE. Upon proven suitability, the employment contract will be converted to an indefinite contract. 
  • At Maastricht University, the well-being of our employees is of utmost importance, we offer flexible working hours and the possibility to work partly from home if the nature of your position allows it. You will receive a monthly commuting and internet allowance for this. If you work full-time, you will be entitled to 29 vacation days and 4 additional public holidays per year, namely carnival Monday, carnival Tuesday, Good Friday, and Liberation Day. If you choose to accumulate compensation hours, an additional 12 days will be added. Furthermore, you can personalize your employment conditions through a collective labor agreement (CAO) choice model.
