At SBE’s Finance Department, you join one of Europe’s most international academic environments. You will develop and pursue your own research agenda while collaborating closely with colleagues. Your teaching will typically include coordinating and delivering two 7-week courses per year, supervising bachelor’s and master’s theses, and the possibility to contribute to MBA and executive education. Administrative duties are deliberately kept light, so you can focus on research and teaching excellence.

What we offer
As Assistant Professor of Finance at School of Business and Economics, you will be employed by the most international university in the Netherlands, located in the beautiful city of Maastricht. In addition, we offer you:
- Good employment conditions. The position is graded in scale 11 - 12 according to UFO profile Assistant Professor, with corresponding salary based on experience ranging from €4728,00 and €7297,00 gross per month (based on a full-time employment of 38 hours per week). In addition to the monthly salary, an 8.0% holiday allowance and an 8.3% year-end bonus apply.
- An employment contract for an initial period of 18 months with a scope of 1.0 FTE. If proven suitable, the employment contract will be converted into an indefinite contract.
- At Maastricht University, the well-being of our employees is of utmost importance, we offer flexible working hours and the possibility to work partly from home if the nature of your position allows it. You will receive a monthly commuting and internet allowance for this. If you work full-time, you will be entitled to 29 vacation days and 4 additional public holidays per year, namely carnival Monday, carnival Tuesday, Good Friday, and Liberation Day. If you choose to accumulate compensation hours, an additional 12 days will be added. Furthermore, you can personalize your employment conditions through a collective labor agreement (CAO) choice model.

The Maastricht Finance Group
We pride ourselves in being an international, diverse, and collegial group of scholars with a strong research orientation, mainly in the field of empirical finance. Articles have been published in the international top journals (for example American Economic Review, Review of Financial Studies, Review of Economics and Statistics, Management Science, etc.).
The Finance Group is very active in the main scientific networks in Finance and has been the host of some of its main conferences. The annual conferences of Global Research Alliance of Sustainable Finance and Investments (GRASFI), Financial Management Association, European Finance Association, the European Financial management Association and the American Real Estate and Urban Economics Association are examples of this.
Besides the strong focus on research, the group also aims to provide the best Finance education possible and has consistent top ratings in the school.
The student population in Finance is international, with approximately 75% of students from outside of the Netherlands. Teaching is student-oriented, focusing on the principles of Problem Based Learning. Education is in English.
The department has been successful in attracting funding and grants from both national and international science foundations and the private sector, including the real estate, pension fund, asset management, and corporate sector. Many of the activities of the group are performed in teams, and the group tries to foster such teamwork as much as possible.
