At Maastricht University, we believe that meaningful change starts with collaboration, evidence-informed education and a global perspective. SHE Collaborates and the Department of Educational Development and Research are looking for a new colleague to join our team in an exciting role combining education consultancy, teaching and research.

Assistant Professor (UD) – Internationalization in Health Professions Education within SHE Collaborates / department of Educational Development & Research

Our goal: SHE Collaborates is the international collaboration office of the School of Health Professions Education (SHE). We work with universities and healthcare organisations worldwide to design, implement and evaluate educational innovations that strengthen health professions education.
Our projects focus on tailor made  capacity development, long-term partnerships and evidence-informed educational change. Together with our international partners all over the world, we contribute to better healthcare by supporting the education of current and future healthcare professionals.

Your colleagues: You will join the Department of Educational Development & Research and work primarily within the multidisciplinary SHE Collaborates team.
Our colleagues bring together expertise in educational research, curriculum development, faculty development, project management and international collaboration. You will also work closely with researchers and educators across SHE, FHML and Maastricht University Medical Centre+ (MUMC+).
Together, we value curiosity, collaboration and continuous learning while working in an open and internationally oriented academic environment.

As an Assistant Professor, you will combine international consultancy, education and research.
Working closely with universities, medical schools and healthcare organisations around the world, you will support educational innovation through consultancy, faculty development and collaborative projects. At the same time, you will strengthen SHE's research portfolio by initiating research projects, acquiring external funding and supervising PhD candidates.
You will also contribute to the educational programmes of FHML by teaching and mentoring students in Bachelor's and Master's programmes.
This role offers a unique combination of academic work and international engagement, allowing you to make a tangible contribution to healthcare education worldwide.

In this position, you will:
•    advise universities, medical schools and healthcare organisations on educational innovation and organisational development;
•    design and deliver faculty development programmes, workshops and educational consultancy projects in diverse international contexts;
•    facilitate training programmes for educators, clinicians and academic leaders, both in Maastricht and during short international visits (typically one week, four to six times per year);
•    initiate, acquire funding for and conduct research related to international health professions education and educational innovation;
•    supervise PhD candidates and contribute to the development of junior researchers;
•    Assume education and teaching roles in Bachelor's and Master's programmes within FHML;
•    contribute to the further development and international visibility of SHE Collaborates.

Are you ready to help shape the future of health professions education worldwide? We'd love to meet you.

What you bring
We are looking for an academically driven professional who enjoys working across cultures and disciplines. Rather than ticking every box, we value your expertise, curiosity and commitment to improving health professions education.
You recognise yourself in the following profile:
•    A PhD in Health Professions Education or a closely related discipline.
•    A strong track record in health professions education, demonstrated through research and peer-reviewed publications.
•    Experience in educational consultancy and the co-development of educational innovations.
•    Experience in research and acquiring research funding and developing collaborative research projects.
•    Experience supervising or mentoring PhD candidates or early-career researchers.
•    The ability to work confidently in culturally diverse international environments.
•    Excellent communication skills in English and Dutch, both written and spoken. Proficiency in additional languages is considered an asset. A willingness to travel internationally several times each year.

What we offer
At Maastricht University, you’ll work in an international, open, and engaged environment. We offer:

  • A 18-month contract (0,8 - 1,0 fte) with the prospect of a permanent contract based on mutual satisfaction.

  • Flexible working hours, a home office allowance, and the option to work from home.
  • Freedom and space to shape your work independently and develop your ideas.
  • A close-knit community of colleagues to collaborate and grow with.
  • A solid pension plan via ABP, company fitness schemes, and access to various university sports facilities.
  • An inspiring work environment in the heart of Europe.
