Arabic Skills Teacher
• Our goal: You will be working with students at Maastricht University who are interested in learning Arabic. In addition to the language itself, the cultural aspects interwoven with the language are also of great importance.

What you do
You will strive to raise your students' Arabic to a high level in a short period of time. You will be satisfied when your students:
• Know Arabic in both spoken and written form
• Understand the culture and cultural diversity
• Are able to hold discussions in Arabic
• Can apply Arabic in their own faculty's field of knowledge

What you bring
We’re not looking for checkboxes; we’re interested in who you are and what you bring. Do you recognize yourself in this?
You are proficient in Arabic and have extensive knowledge of the various Arab countries. In addition, you have a high level of proficiency in English and Dutch (teaching languages) (minimum B1). You are able to effectively convey cultural nuances to your students in English, Dutch and Arabic. You are sensitive, emotionally mature, and able to assess which topics are suitable for group discussions involving participants from a variety of cultural backgrounds. You know how to skilfully prevent and manage conflict situations when they arise, including in the area of diversity and inclusion. In short, you have:
• The ability to teach on campus.
• An academic level of working and thinking
• Tech and AI savvy
• Good and up-to-date teaching skills, for example a BKO
• A Bachelor's degree or higher in Arabic, applied linguistics, educational science or a related field.
• Preferably experience in teaching Arabic as a foreign language at university level.
• Language proficiency in English (minimum B1, preferably higher) and Dutch (B1)
• A broad general interest, inquisitive and creative
• A willingness to moderate complex discussions
• A drive to work independently with your own responsibilities
• Social and professional skills that make you a valuable team player
What we offer
At Maastricht University, you’ll work in an international, open, and engaged environment. We offer:
• A 12-month contract with the prospect of a maximum of 2 temporary extensions, the employment contract will be converted into a permanent contract.
• A gross monthly salary between €3708.- and €5538.- (based on full-time employment of 38 hours per week). 8% holiday allowance and an 8.3% year-end bonus.
• 29 vacation days (based on full-time), four additional days off (Carnival Monday and Tuesday, Good Friday, and Liberation Day), and the possibility to accrue up to 12 extra days through compensation hours.
