The Young Universities for the Future of Europe (YUFE) are setting up a new joint bachelor’s programme in Urban Sustainability Studies (USS) with 10 universities and partners from different countries. The USS bachelor’s programme will be located in Heerlen at the Smart Services Campus where it is embedded within the broader ambition of the region to approach the transition to a sustainable, future-proof urban region through, among other things, knowledge development and innovation.
The Faculty of Science and Engineering (FSE) is partnering on behalf of Maastricht University with the ambition to start this new programme in September 2025. We are the Faculty of Science and Engineering at Maastricht University: the youngest and most international STEM faculty in the Netherlands. After years of growth, we are now proudly a community of over 3,700 students and 460 staff members, spread across the four Brightlands Campuses in Maastricht, Heerlen, Sittard-Geleen, and Venlo, as well as the international YUFE alliance. We are ambitious, dedicated to both our education and research, and a bit rebellious.
As the Student Affairs Officer, you will work at the heart of the educational processes for the new USS programme. Together with colleagues, you will focus on implementing, optimizing and facilitating all administrative student processes and by this laying the tracks for the future.

Tasks
As a Student Affairs Officer you are:
- Responsible for implementing and maintaining the USS student administration (admissions, scheduling, organizing exams, processing grades, thesis support, etc.)
- The go-to person for USS students for all questions related to studying in Heerlen
- In charge of student communication within the programme
- Help set up a community of students and staff members at our new location
- Provide support to the Chair of the YUFE USS Programme Committee (organizing their meetings, taking minutes, executing their decisions, etc.)
In short, we are looking for an enthusiastic multi talent that easily switches between the tasks mentioned above.
Qualifications
As a Student Affairs Officer you demonstrate the following qualifications:
- You effortlessly switch between Dutch and English, both in speaking and writing.
- You demonstrate an entrepreneurial and solution-oriented mindset, proactively suggesting and implementing improvements.
- You possess strong communication skills, enabling you to collaborate effectively with various stakeholders.
- You have a keen eye for detail, ensuring the information you put into the system is accurate.
Proven experience in dealing with organizational structures in software such as SAP or similar systems is considered to be an added bonus.
What we offer
As Student Affairs Officer at Faculty of Science & Engineering, you will be employed by the most international university in the Netherlands, located in the beautiful city of Maastricht. In addition, we offer you:
- Good employment conditions. The position is graded in scale 7 - 8 according to UFO profile Medewerker studentenzaken 3-2, with corresponding salary based on experience ranging from €2899,00 and €4298,00 gross per month (based on a full-time employment of 38 hours per week). In addition to the monthly salary, an 8.0% holiday allowance and an 8.3% year-end bonus apply.
- An employment contract for a period of 12 months with a scope of 1,0 FTE.
- At Maastricht University, the well-being of our employees is of utmost importance, we offer flexible working hours and the possibility to work partly from home if the nature of your position allows it. You will receive a monthly commuting and internet allowance for this. If you work full-time, you will be entitled to 29 vacation days and 4 additional public holidays per year, namely carnival Monday, carnival Tuesday, Good Friday, and Liberation Day. If you choose to accumulate compensation hours, an additional 12 days will be added. Furthermore, you can personalize your employment conditions through a collective labor agreement (CAO) choice model.
